Bill King's Jazz Piano Collection (1978-2008)

C$14.85

The Jazz Collection (1979 – 2008) The fifteen compositions that follow are all part of the light jazz side of pianist/composer Bill King. The title song Summer Heat was recorded in 1978 and released in Canada in 1979 as a B side to the vocal single “Love & Affection” which went turntable gold across the country. In some areas broadcasters began playing the instrumental B side turning it into a turntable favourite for years to come. Both “Magnolia Nights” and “Amerasia” were international successes catching the first days of smooth jazz/wave radio across North America in 1989. During the years that followed King recorded a few more albums of jazz instrumentals – “Ice,” the Juno nominated “Avenue B,” “East Side Symphony,” “City of Dreams” and most recently Bill King’s Rhythm Express, “Beat Street.” The Jazz Collection is the more melodic at times cinematic writing of pianist King. The melodies are broad sweeping motifs that linger far after each listen. The players are a who’s who of Canadian jazz – drummer Mark Kelso, Rob and David Piltch, Pat and Joe LaBarbera, Dave Young, Duncan Hopkins, Vern Dorge, Marty Morell, Dave James, John Johnson, Ted Quinlan, and many others.
